HIGH and "DRY"

Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch was not effected by the recent flooding in Central Texas. The normally dry Cibolo Creek, that is now flowing, is far below the back section of the
Wildlife Ranch known as the "Kilamanjaro Overlook". This pasture is named for its scenic
elevated location, as the back of this pasture is a 150 foot bluff that drops into the Cibolo
Creek bed. Now that the creek is inundated with water, it actually enhances the scenic
beauty of this pasture.

The animals have actually enjoyed the cooler than normal temperatures and the rainfall has provided more native vegetation than normal for this time of the year. During the parch summer months, the animals rely solely on supplemental feeding. Annually, the over 500 animals that call Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch home consume approximately 1 million pounds of alfalfa hay and 200,000 pounds of grains and supplements.

Bertha and Goliath, the honeymooning white rhino pair, are basking in the wonderful (by their definition) mud puddles that are in abundance. Rhinos spend most of their summer days mud bathing. A rhino's skin is very thick, but is is surprisingly very suspectible to damage from parasites and the sun ... a mud coating provides a cooling defense to the elements.
