Schlitterbahn Waterpark
& Resort Schlitterbahn is the most popular
summertime waterpark in the United States, and attracts
more visitors than any other seasonal waterpark during
its season. It is located on the banks of the spring-fed
Comal River in New Braunfels, TX and its unique location
and ambience have earned praise worldwide as America’s
favorite waterpark.
Schlitterbahn means "slippery road" in German. It opened
in 1979 with a centerpiece of a German –style castle
from which came four waterslides. In the 20 years since
its opening it has expanded to over 60 acres in two
locations. In 1991 a 25-acre addition was added which
includes state-of-the-art attractions like the Boogie
Bahn surging ride and the world’s first uphill water
coasters. In 1996 the Blastenhoff section opened up,
which now includes Han’s Hideout, a five-story water fun
house in which children and parents climb through the
pirate-themed attraction. Waterfalls, geysers, floor
bubblers and many hands-on features add to the fun. Of
course, water is the main ingredient, keeping guests
cool with a frequent drenching.
The park also includes gift shops, restaurant,
refreshment centers, hot tubs, children’s water
playgrounds, water and sand volleyball courts, in
addition to the more than 40 rides.
The natural riverfront setting, high-tech attractions, a
family-friendly atmosphere, with picnics welcome and
free parking, are factors that set Schlitterbahn apart
from other waterparks.
From the innovations that have made Schlitterbahn a
trend setter, has grown a second New Braunfels based
company called NBGS International, Inc. Here waterparks
are designed and attractions manufactured for parks
worldwide.
Schlitterbahn Resort at the Rapids and Schlitterbahn
Resort at the Bahn have various condominiums, cottages
and suites, which can accommodate up to10 people each.
Motel rooms, duplexes and two-bedroom unites are open
April through September at the Rapids; and the Bahn has
year-round accommodations available to those wishing to
enjoy the mild winters in south Texas.
For the future, plans are now in the works for
Schlitterbahn Beach Park on the southern tip of South
Padre Island. The 14.9-acre site on Isla Blanca Park
will have rides similar to Schlitterbahn with many
exciting new elements.
